After the 2008 Mumbai attacks, India engaged the international community to expose the networks operating from Pakistan, particularly groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed. India used global forums such as the United Nations to push for sanctions against these terrorist organisations and their leaders. It successfully lobbied for the UN Security Council to designate key figures as global terrorists, including Hafiz Saeed, the mastermind of the attacks. Additionally, India advocated for Pakistan’s inclusion on the FATF’s grey list, which led to increased scrutiny of Pakistan’s financial institutions and greater international pressure on the country to combat terrorism financing. Domestically, it focused on improving intelligence sharing, coastal security, and created the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to counter terror threats.
