Station House Officer (SHO) Gurjant Singh said that all lights were turned off following orders from senior officials. If any vehicles were seen with their lights on, they were made to switch them off. He added that the police are on high alert, and officers have been stationed at all major intersections.
Deputy Commissioner Deepshikha Sharma said that this was a routine drill and there is no need to panic. “The administration is fully alert and ready to respond if needed,” she said.
As part of the security efforts, DIG Harmanbir Gill led the local police in keeping an eye on suspicious people, known criminals, and smugglers. Security checks were increased at toll booths, and online activity on social media was also being watched closely.
The Border Security Force (BSF) increased patrolling along the India-Pakistan border, and Punjab Police set up checkpoints at important locations to ensure safety.[With TOI inputs]
