Gujarat Titans (GT), champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2022 and runners-up in season 2023, will kick off their 2024 season against the five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) at their home ground in Ahmedabad on March 24 (Sunday). The match holds significant anticipation as both teams undergo notable captaincy changes, with former GT skipper Hardik Pandya now leading MI, while Shubman Gill embarks on his maiden captaincy role with GT.
The IPL 2024 schedule was released on February 22, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) unveiled fixtures for only the initial two weeks. The cash-rich league will commence on March 22, and the two-week schedule will span until April 7, featuring 21 matches across 10 Indian cities. Each team is slated to play a minimum of three and a maximum of five games during this period, with Shubman Gill’s team scheduled to play five matches, including two away fixtures.

Due to the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 coinciding with the IPL 2024 dates, the BCCI refrained from announcing a full schedule and instead disclosed the schedule for the initial leg. The governing body clarified that the schedule for the remainder of the season would be finalised once the polling dates were confirmed. In past instances during the 2009 and 2014 General Elections, the IPL was relocated outside of India, but the BCCI successfully conducted the entire 2019 season domestically. BCCI Secretary Jay Shah recently dismissed speculations about IPL 2024 being relocated abroad, affirming that the tournament will exclusively take place in India.
