In a tragic incident, a woman died following a mass food poisoning event in the Thrissur district of Kerala. Approximately 178 people were affected after consuming Biryani-type dish from a local restaurant in the Perinjanam region. The deceased has been identified as Uzaiba (56), a resident of Kutilakkadav. She was treated at Thrissur Medical College for severe stomach ache and vomiting. Uzaiba and two of her relatives were among those who sought medical help after the poison outbreak.

Mayonnaise Causes Food Poisoning

Officials suspect that the food poisoning was caused by mayonnaise served with “kuzhimanthi,” a Yemeni-inspired dish consisting of flavored rice and meat, commonly available in non-vegetarian restaurants in Kerala. Following the incident, authorities sealed the restaurant, an officer from the Kaipamangalam police station told PTI.

As per reports, a team led by epidemiologist Kala from the District Medical Office, along with IDSP Officer Dr. Geeta, gathered evidence at the restaurant.
