LS polls: More than 79,000 violations reported so far through C-Vigil app, says EC | India News – Times of India
NEW DELHI: The Election Commission (EC) on Friday said that the effectiveness of its C-Vigil mobile application in enabling citizens to report violations of the poll code.
Since the announcement of the Lok Sabha election, the EC has received over 79,000 complaints, with more than 99 percent of them resolved. Close to 89 percent of these complaints were resolved within 100 minutes, demonstrating swift action.
The majority of complaints, around 73 percent, were related to illegal hoardings and banners, totaling over 58,500.
Approximately 1,400 complaints were regarding the distribution of money, gifts, and liquor. About 3 percent of the complaints, numbering 2,454, pertained to property defacement.
Regarding more serious issues, of the 535 complaints related to the display of firearms and intimidation, 529 have been resolved. There were also 1,000 complaints about campaigning beyond the prohibited period, including the unauthorized use of speakers.
The EC also said that Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar had urged citizens to stay vigilant and utilise the app to report violations of the Model Code of Conduct and any attempts to influence voters. The Lok Sabha polls, spanning seven phases, were announced on March 16, with voting scheduled between April 19 and June 1.
