Ludhiana: Police arrested a man with an illegal country-made pistol and two live cartridges on Saturday. Police said that the arrested accused had come out of jail on bail a few days ago. They added that the accused and his brother wanted to kill their aide, for which they had procured the illegal weapon.
The accused, Varinder Singh of Pakhowal village, was arrested from near the seva kendra of Lohara village on a tip-off.The police set up a checkpost when the accused crossed the area on his bike. They stopped him for checking and seized a .315 bore illegal country-made pistol and two live cartridges from his possession.
The accused confessed to have procured the pistols and bullets from Madhya Pradesh for Rs 15,000. Varinder Kumar has three snatching FIRs registered against him. He was lodged in jail and came out on bail a few days ago. His brother Prince, who was involved in snatching and drug peddling, is facing trial in various cases.
“Accused and his brother wanted to kill a person who worked for them as a courier to supply drugs. Later, he stopped working for them and started peddling drugs on his own. The brothers wanted to take revenge, for which they got the weapon. Varinder’s brother Prince was lodged in jail for drug peddling and had also come out on bail a few months ago,” apolice official said.
