Batting first, Australia posted a total of 264 runs before being bowled out. During the first innings, Virat Kohli achieved a milestone, surpassing Ricky Ponting in ODI fielding records.

Virat Kohli took two crucial catches, moving ahead of Ricky Ponting in the list of most catches by a fielder in ODI cricket.

Kohli now holds 161 catches, securing second place, while Ponting sits third with 160. The top spot remains with Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardene, who holds 218 catches – the only player to surpass 200 catches in ODIs.

Virat Kohli’s first catch was off Ravindra Jadeja’s delivery, dismissing Josh Inglis for 11 runs. The second catch came from Mohammed Shami’s bowling, sending Nathan Ellis back to the pavilion for 10 runs. This helped Kohli surpass Ponting’s tally.

India is chasing 265 runs to book their spot in the Champions Trophy 2025 final on March 9.

A victory would not only secure a place in the Champions Trophy final but also serve as redemption against Australia, who defeated India in the 2023 ODI World Cup final.
