Soha Ali Khan says family’s ancestral home, Peeli Kothi, is haunted; ghost slapped her grand aunt: ‘My family packed bags overnight, moved to Pataudi Palace’

Soha Ali Khan, who recently starred in the Prime Video horror film Chhorri 2, recalled a real-life spooky story in which her family in Pataudi had to vacate their house overnight. In a recent interview Soha Ali Khan while discussing horror stories shared how her family believed that they had a first-hand experience with the supernatural back in the day. Soha’s royal family lived in a different palace, called Peeli Kothi, before they shifted to the famous Pataudi Palace. According to the actress, her great aunt believed she was slapped by a supernatural being after which the entire family decided to pack their bags and vacate the house.

When asked if she has ever worked on a set that is said to be haunted, Soha quickly replied, “I don’t know about sets, but there’s our house in Pataudi.” She explained, “So there is a palace next to Pataudi Palace, which is called Peeli Kothi. Our family used to live there until one night they decided to pack their bags and vacate it and that’s how they shifted to Pataudi Palace. The reason cited for the sudden shift is a supernatural being. I don’t know how true is that because obviously, I wasn’t present then. But, apparently, my great aunt was slapped by a ghost and they could see the mark on her face. This scared them and they decided to leave,” said Soha Ali Khan to Mirchi Plus.

Soha said that despite the palace is located next to the iconic Pataudi Palace, also known as Ibrahim Kothi, making it a prime location, the Peeli Kothi remains uninhabitated till date. “There must be a reason why people are not occupying that place,” said Soha.

Soha plays the role of Daasi Maa in the newly released film Chhorri 2. The film, directed by Vishal Furia, is a sequel to the 2021 film Chhorii. Both the films star Nushrratt Bharuccha in the lead role.

Pataudi Palace

Pataudi Palace was built in 1934, before which generations of the family lived in the Peeli Kothi. The Nawab of Bhopal declined a marriage proposal from the Pataudi family, citing the palace’s small size and saying it was unsuitable for his daughter. Spurred by this rejection, Pataudi’s Nawab Iftikhar Ali Khan commissioned the construction of what we now know as the Pataudi Palace. It was designed by British architect Robert Tor Russell — who also designed Connaught Place — with help from Austrian architect Karl Molt von Heinz.
