Ryan Coogler’s directorial Sinners, has already scored a 99% on Rotten Tomatoes, way before its scheduled premiere on April 18. The American horror stars Michael B. Jordan, Hailee Steinfeld, and others in key roles, with the Creed star taking on a dual role in the story of twin brothers who return to their hometown, only to be confronted by a great evil, a storyline that seems to have already clicked with critics. Promotions for the film are currently in full swing. The Coogler directorial is also making its way to India. But it’s not just the film that’s making headlines, Jordan is also turning heads for what he had to say about India and Bollywood in a recent interview with Zoom.
Michael B Jordan on Bollywood, JR. NTR and Priyanka
During the conversation with the Indian outlet, the Black Panther star opened up about his interest in Bollywood and recalled meeting a few famous names from the industry. Talking about an Oscars after-party, the actor said, “I see Jr NTR often. He loves sports, he loves basketball.” While he didn’t specify which Academy Awards he was referring to, it is likely to be the awards in 2023, when SS Rajamouli’s RRR landed a major nomination and Jr NTR was present for both the nod and the historic win for Naatu Naatu. He was even seen later posing with the trophy. In the same interview, Jordan also briefly mentioned meeting Priyanka Chopra, although he didn’t go into much detail about their conversation. When asked if he’d be open to doing a Bollywood film, he said, “Definitely, I would love that. Would be great to do a Bollywood movie.”

About Sinners
Jordan then shifted focus to his upcoming Warner Bros. project, a story set in the 1930s in the rural town of Clarksdale, Mississippi. For a horror film to score a near-perfect Tomatometer before its release is rare, and no doubt, that’s added to the growing buzz around Sinners. The film also stars Jack O’Connell, Jayme Lawson, Li Jun Li, and Miles Caton in key roles. This marks Jordan’s fifth collaboration with Coogler after Creed, its sequel, and Black Panther.
Jordan will be seen playing the Smokestack twins—Smoke and Stack—who leave their hometown to “fight on the German front during World War I.” According to Variety, the film does little to separate the two characters at first, a clever way to keep viewers hooked. Horror films often go big on theme, but Sinners, judging by early reactions, stands out for exploring something deeper and more emotional. The story looks at what sin means in the context of Black America. “It reflects on how some turn to crime as a way to escape oppression and also touches on the legend of blues musician Robert Johnson, said to have made a deal with the devil at a crossroads in exchange for his once-in-a-generation musical gift.”
