Though not a single creature, coral reefs host an astonishing array of marine life — and they, too, are dying due to climate change. Corals are highly sensitive to temperature changes; even a rise of 1°C above average can cause “coral bleaching,” where corals expel the symbiotic algae that provide them with food and color. Without these algae, the corals starve and die.
