The terrorists whose homes have been demolished so far include Adil Ahmad Thokar, Ahsan ul Haq Sheikh, Shahid Ahmad, Asif Sheikh, Haris Ahmad, and Farooq Teedwa.
“This is to create a deterrence to avoid any such attacks in the future. Many more actions will be taken in the coming days. A list of persons operating from Pakistan and across the LoC, who are in the Red List, is being finalized for similar action,” said a senior police official.
Following the 2019 policy change, the authorities stopped handing over the bodies of terrorists to their families, instead burying them in distant, designated graveyards, sometimes over 100 kilometers from their homes. The government later began attaching properties of terrorists and their suspected associates. The latest step-demolishing their homes-is seen as an effort to deter further attacks.
Family members of the terrorists, however, have accused authorities of punishing them for the actions of their relatives. In Srinagar, police conducted raids on the residences of 63 alleged overground workers of terrorists.
