Nushrratt Bharuccha has carved a niche for herself in the film industry with performances in Pyaar Ka Punchnama, Dream Girl, and more. She is an independent woman, a lead actor, and the sole breadwinner of her family. However, even that doesn’t shield her from the prejudices of society. In a recent interaction, Nushrratt opened up about the pressure of getting married and recalled meeting potential suitors who asked her to quit acting.
Speaking about this constant pressure, she told Bollywood Bubble, “I recently went to meet my grandmother and she again asked me to get married saying, ‘Just look at my age. Your mom and dad are also old. Who will take care of you? Shaadi karle (get married).’ My father also said the same things, ‘We are now tired of asking her to marry’. But you see I don’t fight at home for marriage. I tell them that I will marry the day I meet the guy. ‘You haven’t been able to find a guy and I too haven’t been able to find him. So, what do I do in that.’”
Nushrratt admitted that she has always been open to arranged marriage, but that hasn’t resulted in finding the right person. She said, “I have met with lots of guys that my parents suggested. I have gone to an arrange marriage meeting without seeing the boy’s photo. But for these meetings I have one condition that the cuisine will be of my choice, so that atleast I like the food, if not the guy.”
The Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety star also revealed that many suitors have even asked her to quit her profession in order to marry them. “What I like about arrange marriage is that they have a clarity of what they want in their partner. But I have been asked many times to quit acting and films after marriage and smile and refuse the condition, ‘Yeh toh nahi hoga (This is not possible),’” she said.
On the professional front, Nushrratt’s latest film Chhorii 2 was released on Prime Video on April 11.
