Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Saturday asked Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann why he had not asked excise minister Harpal Cheema to resign over Sangrur hooch tragedy and why no murder case had been registered against the perpetrators.
SAD chief spokesperson Arshdeep Singh Kler said Mann had on record said the excise minister should resign immediately and a murder case should be registered against the perpetrators.“Forget these actions, the CM has not even found time to visit the 21 families whose near and dear ones fell victim to spurious liquor,” said Kler.
The SAD leader added it was condemnable that Mann was busier in protesting against Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s arrest in the Delhi excise policy case, instead of looking at the tragedy. Kler also claimed that AAP govt was trying to shield the company which had supplied liquor in the area. “Police have removed the company’s label from bottles during briefings, indicating the closeness of the company which was given a licence to produce ethanol in Dec 2022,” said Kler. tnn
