Ludhiana: Around 2,000 police personnel will be deployed on the roads to ensure peaceful Holi celebrations on Monday. Warning residents against indulging in hooliganism, police officials said that those violating traffic rules will be challaned.
Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) headquarter Gurmeet Kaur said that police checkposts will be set up at all the main markets and chowks of the city like Sarabha Nagar, Malhar Road, Ghumar Mandi, Haibowal, Jamalpur market, Chandigarh Road, Dugri, Ferozepur road, South City, Bharat Nagar Chowk, Gill Road and Old City.
He added that challan would be issued for triple riding, rash driving, driving without helmets or seat belts, or driving Royal Enfield bikes without silencers. Checks will also be conducted to prevent drunk driving.
Police personnel will patrol internal lanes and residents can inform police about hooliganism at the number 112. Additional deputy commissioner of police – Traffic Gurpreet Kaur Purewal said that about 200 traffic police personnel will be on duty. She added that they had been directed to act sternly with those creating a nuisance in the name of the festival.
She said that cameras installed in the entire commissionerate area.
