CHANDIGARH: Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar on Sunday said it was only upon coming to know of his plan to visit families affected by the hooch tragedy in Sangrur that CM Bhagwant Mann decided to meet them.
Jakhar said Mann and finance minister Harpal Cheema had lost all moral authority to hold office following the deaths. “They have shown no regard for families who have suffered the loss due to AAP’s unlawful and unrestricted support to liquor mafia,” Jakhar said, while visiting affected families in Sangrur’s Gujjran village.
‘Mann prioritising arrested AAP chief’
Jakhar accused Mann of prioritising arrested Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, who is under scrutiny for his involvement in the Delhi excise scam.“It is appalling that the CM took over 100 hours to reach out to people of his own constituency in a time like this,” Jakhar said. Talking to the families of deceased, Jakhar said he would urge the EC to grant special permission for allowing state govt to disburse maximum compensation to victims. “I won’t let CM run away from providing monetary relief to bereaved on the pretext of Code of Conduct,” he said.
He said he was told the bereaved were being forcibly confined to their houses, preventing them from meeting the media or the CM to share their experiences. “Some individuals told me that their sons have been unjustly booked by police for no valid reason, merely to showcase police action on paper,” Jakhar said after a phone conversation with ADGP Gurinder Singh Dhillon, who heads the SIT investigating the matter.
