Preetpal Jurisdiction Issue: Hry Police Used Old Revenue Record To Defend Itself | Chandigarh News
CHANDIGARH: Haryana Police had to dig out old revenue record that includes old maps on the border between Punjab and Haryana to strengthen its case that Punjab farm activist Preetpal Singh, who was found injured after the February 21 clash near Khanauri border was in their territorial jurisdiction.
Preetpal Singh, who is at centre of the controversy, in his statement recorded before the chief judicial magistrate on March 14 claimed that he was forcibly taken by Haryana police from the territory of Sangrur district in Punjab towards the Haryana side and then mercilessly beaten up.The Haryana police have contested this claim.
The Punjab and Haryana high court is hearing a habeas corpus case filed by Preetpal’s father alleging that his son had been illegally detained by Haryana police.
The Haryana govt, in a submission to the high court on Feb 26, claimed that the Haryana Police never attacked anyone and had found Preetpal injured and got him admitted to a hospital for treatment. The next date of hearing is on April 2.
