Ludhiana: Police here on Monday night arrested a man for allegedly murdering his 65-year-old father by repeatedly hitting him with a brick after they had an argument.
Suraj Bahadur (30), who belongs to Nepal, had been living with his father at Jiwan Nagar in Focal Point.
Kishan Bahadur, son-in-law of deceased Laxman Das, alleged that his brother-in-law would often fight with his father over minor issues and they would live in separate rooms.He alleged that on Sunday, his brother-in-law had a fight with his father over some issue. As tempers flared, Suraj bludgeoned his father with a brick, Kishan claimed.
He claimed that the accused locked the room containing his father’s body. He claimed that neighbours informed the police when foul smell started emanating from the room the day after.
A murder case was registered at Focal Point police station during the day on Monday. Sub-inspector Dalbir Singh, investigating officer, said the accused was arrested from Dhandari Kalan railway station on Monday night when he was trying to flee the city. The investigating officer said they suspected the accused was drunk when he committed the crime.
Police officials said both deceased and accused had been working as guards. The deceased has another son and two daughters, one of whom is married to the complainant. The investigating officer said the accused had been declared a proclaimed offender by a court in a case of alleged sacrilege at a religious place in Samrala in 2020. He had gone missing after getting bail.
