KURUKSHETRA: The crime investigation agency (CIA)-II of Kurukshetra police arrested a man for planting poppy plants at a plot in Gumthala Garhu village of the district on Wednesday.
The arrested accused was identified as Sheesha Singh of Gumthala Garhu village. He was produced before the district court on Thursday, which sent him to judicial custody.
The CIA-II seized 606 poppy plants weighing about 29.6 kilograms worth about Rs 1.50 lakh, said police.
Kurukshetra police spokesman said CIA-II received the tip-off that accused Sheesha had planted poppy plants in a hidden manner without a permit at a plot in his village.
“A raid was conducted at the spot when 606 poppy plants were found standing, which were uprooted and seized”, said the police.
A case was registered against the accused Sheesha under relevant Sections of the NDPS Act at Pehowa Sadar police station.
