Amritsar: There are speculations about BJP’s next big Sikh catch after Ludhiana MP Ravneet Bittu. Going it alone in the coming Lok Sabha elections, the party needs influential Jat Sikhs to make up for losing SAD as an ally along with Harsimrat Kaur Badal as a central minister in 2020.
The Congress lost former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh, his wife, Preneet Kaur, former state party president Sunil Jakhar, and former minister Rana Gurjit Sodhi to BJP, which also gained legislator Amarpal Bony from SAD along with district Akali leaders Gurpartap Singh Tikka, Ajaybir Pal Singh Randhawa, and Sarchand Khiala.
Gong for prominent Hindu faces of Punjab’s all 13 Lok Sabha seats, BJP inducted Jalandhar MP Sushil Kumar Rinku and legislator Sheetal Aggarwal into the party after former diplomat Taranjit Singh Sandhu, who is now a frontrunner for the Amritsar Lok Sabha seat. Political analyst Somedev Sharma said: “BJP had tasked five of its Punjab figures with preparing local cadre in the state’s all 13 Lok Sabha seats, but when they all failed despite their handsome perks and positions, the party had to poach, which embittered local BJP members, There are hardly any known BJP faces in the coming elections, in both rural and urban seats.
