Ludhiana: Trying to rescue a neighbour being assaulted by his relatives did not end well for a 42-year-old man of Shimlapuri’s Sooraj Nagar. The accused allegedly assaulted the man with a sharp-edged weapon in his neck, leading to his death on Thursday night.
Son of the deceased, Jasmeet Singh, said that his father Gurdeep Singh was at home with the family when he heard some noise from outside.“When he went out to check, he saw that our neighbour, Amandeep Singh Deepu, was being attacked by a group of men. He rushed to save him when the assailants, who were armed with swords and other sharp-edged weapons, attacked my father,” he said.
“On hearing my father’s cries, we rushed out and saw him lying on the road in a pool of blood. We rushed him to civil hospital, where doctors declared him dead,” the complainant said. Sub-inspector Gurmeet Singh said, “Amandeep had a fight with his uncle at his house on Thursday night, following which his uncle’s daughter Seema and son Kaka called their aides, including two Nihangs. On reaching the spot, all the accused attacked Amandeep, who rushed out of the house to save his life. On hearing Amandeep’s screams, Gurdeep intervened to rescue him. But the assailants assaulted Gurdeep who died of a severe neck injury, while Amandeep sustained minor injuries.”
The SI added that the police had registered a case against Seema, Kaka, a Nihang identified as Maan, and their three unidentified accomplices, under sections 302 (murder), 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) and 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the Indian Penal Code. The cops said raids were being conducted to nab the accused.
