Ludhiana: As many as 79.03% students appeared for the joint entrance exam for admission to Classes IX and XI in Schools of Eminence and Meritorious schools in Ludhiana district, on Saturday. Of total 15,124 students who registered for the exam, 11,953 students appeared while 3,171 candidates remained absent.
The exam was held from 10am to 1pm in 44 centres of the district.Last year, around 50% of students had appeared for the exam.
Among girls, of 7,122 total registered students, 5,810 students appeared for the exam, registering 76% attendance. Meanwhile, 81.57% boys were in attendance. Of total 8,002 registered students, 6,143 students appeared for the exam.
According to the students, the entrance exam was easy.
Ishmeet Singh, a student of SOE Model Town who appeared at Arya Girls Senior Secondary School, Daresi Ground, said, “The entrance exam was moderate. I found the mathematics portion difficult, while Hindi language setion was the easiest. I completed the exam in three hours, including revision. I am expecting that I will be able to clear the exam and grab a seat in Class XI in a School of Eminence. I am looking forward to pursuing a non-medical degree.”
Notably, this was for the first time that a joint entrance exam was conducted for the admission to meritorious schools and school of eminence.
District education officer (secondary) Harjinder Singh said, “The entrance exam for SOE and meritorious school went well and was held peacefully.”
