Pune: Automatic Rs 10,000 challan at petrol pumps for not having this document. Check latest rule
Vehicular pollution has increased in India, and the authorities are working on enforcing stricter regulations to reduce it. They are also encouraging the use of environmentally friendly fuels like CNG, LNG, biofuel, ethanol-blend, and others, as well as the adoption of electric vehicles. Currently, reports indicate that an automated system is being developed in Pune. This system can detect and penalize vehicles that do not have a valid PUC (Pollution Under Control) certificate. The penalty for not complying? Rs 10,000.

PUC certificates are important for making sure that vehicles follow emission standards, which helps in creating cleaner air. These certificates check a vehicle’s exhaust to determine the levels of pollutants like carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons.

How does the system operate?
Petrol pumps in Pune are set to receive a technological upgrade through the implementation of advanced automated cameras. The cameras will have the ability to scan vehicle registration numbers, cross-referencing them with a central database to confirm the PUC status of each vehicle.

If a vehicle’s PUC certificate is expired, drivers will get immediate fines on their registered mobile phones. Yet, there might be a short grace period to allow drivers to renew their PUC before finalizing fines for compliance. It is important to mention that we are waiting for official confirmation from authorities, and the timeline for implementing this system is still unknown.
